Lawyers Training on International Human Rights Conventions

The Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace has organized, along with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Human Rights Institute at Beirut Bar Association, a 3-days workshop on “the International Human Rights Mechanisms for Protection”.
Around 40 lawyers had participated at 9th, 10th and 11th of September in the Padova Hotel – Sin El fil, attending multiple sessions concerning the International Human Rights Protection Mechanisms and participating to the debate lunched on the matter.
An inauguration session was held on the first day giving the three institutions the chance to explain the purpose of such an initiative, in participation with the head of Beirut Lawyers Bar Association Mr. Georges Greij, and a representative of the minister of Justice Judge Bernard Choueiri, Mrs. Hana Nasser on the behalf of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Mrs. Elizabeth Zakhriya Syoufi director of the Lawyers Syndicate’s Human Rights Institute, and Dr. Antoine Messarra on behalf of the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace.
The training workshop had included many discussions sessions and round tables on international human rights conventions and other human rights mechanisms, such as:
1- Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
2- Convention of Children Rights
3- Universal Periodic Report
4- Procedure of Complains in front of international Human Rights Bodies.
5- European court of human rights, and the Arab court of human rights.
6- International human rights conventions, protocols, and the reservations of Lebanon on its articles.
7- And other topics.

At the end of the workshop, participants have received a certificate of attendance delivered by Mr. Georges Greij head of Beirut Lawyers Bar Association.
